Today the Guggenheim announced that Barbara Slifka, a former fashion editor at Harper’s Bazaar, has been appointed to the museum’s board of trustees, following a vote on Dec. 14.
Slifka serves on several boards that reflect her interests in the arts, the environment and animal protection, among them the New York City Ballet, the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton and the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons.
She is also the president of the Joseph and Sylvia Slifka Foundation, a philanthropic organization named for her parents. The Slifka Foundation has supported many recent exhibitions of the Guggenheim’s permanent collection, such as “The Great Upheaval: Modern Art from the Guggenheim Collection, 1910–1918” (2011), “Broken Forms: European Modernism from the Guggenheim Collection” (2010–11), and “Paris and the Avant-Garde: Modern Masters from the Guggenheim Collection” (2010).
