Barry Bergdoll, chief curator of architecture and design at New York’s Museum of Modern Art since 2007, is stepping down from that role to be a part-time curator, effective Aug. 31.
Bergdoll will take up a new job as a professor of art history and archeology at Columbia University. He has been on an extended leave of absence from the Columbia faculty since starting at MoMA. He will continue to work on exhibitions including a show on architecture in Latin America from 1955 to 1985, scheduled for 2015, and others. He will also oversee the Frank Lloyd Wright Archives, which were acquired by MoMA and Columbia in 2012.
During his tenure, Bergdoll has organized exhibitions such as “Foreclosed: Rehousing the American Dream” (2012), “Rising Currents: Projects for New York’s Waterfront” (2010) and “Bauhaus 1919-1933: Workshops for Modernity” (2010).
The museum is commencing a search for a curator to replace Bergdoll.
