In a sincerely-worded email message sent earlier today, Bellwether Gallery owner Becky Smith confirmed longstanding rumors by announcing the closure of her Chelsea space. Citing the desire to embrace the changes ushered in by the current financial climate, Smith will remain active in a “Bellwether-at-large” capacity; she will represent the gallery’s artists privately for the foreseeable future, and is organizing several shows with details promised for the fall. The gallery’s roster includes artists Trevor Paglen, Daphne Fitzpatrick, and Paula Wilson, among others. Smith also noted that the space, located at 134 Tenth Avenue, is currently available for rent. (Note that this image, a homage to the space, was attached to the email message.)
