Brad Troemel, The Jogging cofounder, Post-Internet art theorist and former champion of entirely immaterial work, trots out some very appealing physical objects in his new show, “Live/Work.” As explained in a nicely tongue-in-cheek press release, the show is a charity walk for ants, basically: in several hanging sculptures made of sandwiched acrylic panes, worker ants are tunneling through multicolored gels. The ants are competing, unbeknownst to them, of course, for various nonprofits, from Earth First! to Greenpeace, Wikipedia to PBS, which will get 10 percent of proceeds from the gallery’s sales. The show is basically sold out, says proprietor Tara Downs; upward of $5,000 will go to the three winning charities. Opposite the sculptures hang three novelty oversize checks. You can just see Troemel handing one of them to some scruffy tree-hugger from Earth First!
