The title of Oldenberg and van Bruggen’s exhibition—”Things Around the House”—is a bit of a double entendre. Most of the 100 works in the show (sculptures, models, drawings, etc.) depict the types of domestic objects typically found around one’s home or studio: food, instruments, umbrellas, light switches, toys and tools, all rendered in the Pop artists’ recognizable vinyl, cardboard and foam. The fact that Oldenberg and van Bruggen’s lived with these works for the past 40 years adds a layer of intimacy to their popular large-scaled sculptures, like their typewriter eraser, represented here as a small plaster maquette.
