Technophilic art lovers and collectors might want to download a recently launched image-recognition app before next week’s art fairs in New York. Called Collectrium, the app can be used at the Pulse, Scope, Volta, Fountain and Moving Image fairs [Mar. 3–6].
The free iPhone app automatically identifies artworks at the fairs, provided they’ve been registered in the database. After visitors snap images with their iPhones, the app allows them to retrieve and store information about the work, the artist and gallery, assemble a “collection” and share items via Facebook and Twitter.
In a press statement, Collectrium founder Boris Pevzner said the app “makes the experience of visiting an art fair more interactive” and allows “visitors to take the fair home with them.” Or at least some nice pictures.
Fair catalogues and programming schedules will also be available via Collectrium. Just don’t lose your phone.
