David Norr. Photo Will Lytch.
Ohio native David Norr has been named of senior curator of exhibitions at Ohio State’s Wexner Center for the Arts. The position has been vacant since last summer, when Christopher Bedford departed, after less than four years on the job, to become the director of the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass.
Norr comes to the Wexner Center from the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, where he has been chief curator since 2011. During his time there, Norr oversaw the opening of the museum’s new home and organized exhibitions such as “Michelle Grabner: I Work From Home” (on view through Feb. 16) and last spring’s “Kate Gilmore: Body of Work.” Prior to joining MOCA Cleveland, he spent five years at the Institute for Research in Art/Contemporary Art Museum at the University of South Florida, Tampa.
In a statement, Norr described the Wexner as “an incubator of established and emerging artists” and was appreciative of the center’s ability to engage with important art world issues on local, national and international levels. His appointment takes effect in March.
