Diana Baldon has been selected as director of Malmö Konsthall by the city’s department of culture. Baldon succeeds Jacob Fabricius, now director and curator of the Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, Denmark, who led the institution from 2008-13. Baldon assumes her new position June 2.
Since 2011, the Italian art historian, critic and curator has lead Index-The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation in Stockholm, which brings emerging artists to Scandinavia. A resident curator and faculty member at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 2007-11, Baldon has also organized exhibitions for Vienna’s Generali Foundation (2012) and co-curated the second Athens Biennale (2009) and the second Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art (2007). She has authored articles for publications such as Texte zur Kunst and Afterall.
The Malmö Konsthall opened in 1975. Designed by architect Klas Anshelm, the non-collecting, city-funded exhibition hall has hosted shows by artists such as Robert Morris, Barbara Kruger, Cindy Sherman, Louise Bourgeois, Olafur Eliasson, Claes Oldenburg, Isa Genzken and Rivane Neuenschwander.
