Hong Kong’s M+ museum has appointed Doryun Chong as its chief curator. Slated to open in 2017, M+ will focus on 20th- and 21st-century visual culture. Chong takes up his post in September.
Chong is currently associate curator of painting and sculpture at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, a position he has held since 2009. At MoMA, he has organized solo exhibitions of artists including Ernesto Neto, Bruce Nauman and Henrik Olesen, and one of MoMA’s major 2012 exhibitions, “Tokyo 1955-1970: A New Avant-Garde.”
Chong, who holds a BA and PhD in art history from the University of California at Berkeley, has held curatorial positions at various institutions, including the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, and the Asian Art Museum and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, both in San Francisco. He also writes and serves as contributing editor for a number of art publications.
