Eungie Joo has been selected as curator of the 12th Sharjah Biennial, opening in March 2015, by the Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF).
Joo is director of art and cultural programs at Instituto Inhotim in Brumadinho, Brazil. Prior to her work in Brumadinho, she served as director and curator of education and public programs at New York’s New Museum (2007-2012), and worked as founding director and curator of the gallery at REDCAT, Los Angeles from 2003-2007.
“Sharjah is a very special place that calls you back again and again,” Joo said in a statement. “I am truly excited to work with Sheikha Hoor and the Sharjah Art Foundation to develop a meaningful conversation with artists, cultural practitioners and Sharjah through both the March Meeting and the Biennial.”
The SAF’s upcoming event, the annual March Meeting, will offer an opportunity for those involved to discuss plans for SB12.
