Following the debilitating fire in Pratt Institute’s main building in on February 15, mega-dealer Larry Gagosian and Pratt trustee emeritus Bruce Newman have arranged for a special week-long thesis exhibition for affected students in the Seagram Building on Park Avenue.
The show, featuring artwork by 44 seniors in the painting and drawing department, will take place on the eighth floor of the Mies van der Rohe skyscraper, a space made available by art collector and real-estate developer Aby Rosen, who co-owns of the building. Appropriately titled “Flameproof,” the exhibition will offer redemption to those students who lost some or all of their thesis work. Eugenie Tsai, a contemporary art curator at the Brooklyn Museum, selected 100 pieces made both before and after the fire for the show.
In a press release from Pratt, Gagosian explained his contribution to the event: “I, too, have experienced loss due to a fire and was inspired by [the students’] perseverance to continue to create art.”
“Flameproof” is open from May 9 to May 14.
