Six finalists have been named for the 2014 Hugo Boss Prize, as reported in the New York Times. The prize includes a $100,000 award and is granted every two years to an artist making significant contributions in contemporary art. The winner also gets a show at New York’s Guggenheim Museum.
The finalists are Paul Chan, 40, a Hong Kong-born, New York-based artist who works in various mediums; Sheela Gowda, 56, who lives and works in Bangalore, India, and creates paintings, sculptures and installations; Camille Henrot, 35, a Paris- and New York-based French artist and filmmaker who won the Silver Lion at the last Venice Biennale; Hassan Khan, 38, a British artist based in Cairo who creates videos and sculptural installations; Steve McQueen, 44, a British film and video artist living in Amsterdam, whose 12 Years a Slave is currently in theaters; and Charline von Heyl, 53, a German-born, New York-based painter.
The winner will be announced in fall 2014, and the show will follow in spring 2015.
