Organized by four of the museum’s curators, the ICP’s “A Different Kind of Order” includes work incorporating photography, film and video by 28 artists, many of whom came of age in an environment inundated with readily accessible digital media. Most impressive is the drastic, yet somehow not jarring, range of tone in the show, from Thomas Hirschhorn’s Touching Reality, a video of a woman’s hand scrolling on an iPad through truly gut-wrenching photos of bodies torn apart by explosions and gunshots, to A.K. Burns’s funny and bizarrely titillating installation of five monitors showing the artist performing inexplicable fetish scenes she discovered online (wearing layers of rubber gloves, stepping on fresh vegetables while wearing white sneakers, etc.).
