John Good has left his longtime post as director of Gagosian Gallery to join Christie’s as senior vice president in the private sales department. The appointment indicates an increased emphasis on private sales at the auction house.
Good has been at Gagosian since 1999. He worked with the estates of Alberto Giacometti and David Smith, and represented painters Mark Tansey and Richard Phillips. Good began his career at Leo Castelli Gallery in 1979. He ran his own gallery for a decade starting in 1985, representing Juan Usle, Riona Rae, Jacqueline Humphries and James Hyde.
At the same time, Amy Cappellazzo’s role is expanding. The chairman of postwar and contemporary art development since 2011, Cappellazzo will now develop projects with artists, galleries and clients to expand the house’s private sales department. Cappellazzo was previously deputy chairman of Christie’s Americas and, before that, international co-head of contemporary art.
