La Biennale de Montréal has announced the list of artists participating in the French Canadian city’s international contemporary art biennial later this year. Titled “BNLMTL 2014: L’avenir (looking forward),” Oct. 22, 2014-Jan. 4, 2015, the exhibition brings together a roster of 50 artists and artist groups from 22 countries whose work responds to current geopolitical, socioeconomic and ethical concerns.
Co-curated by Gregory Burke, executive director of Saskatchewan’s Mendel Art Gallery, and Toronto-based independent curator Peggy Gale, in partnership with the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal curators Lesley Johnstone and Mark Lanctôt, the biennial will present a series of multi-site exhibitions, performances, lectures, symposiums, film screenings and tours throughout the city. The Musée will serve as host, in addition to select cultural institutions and public venues.
Whereas previous years had been organized in part by the Centre international d’art contemporain de Montreal, the biennial’s eighth edition is the first to be organized by an eponymous new nonprofit, in partnership with the Musée.
