Lebbeus Woods, Conflict Space 4, 2006, crayon and acrylic on linen, 74 by 120 inches. Collection SFMOMA, purchase through a gift of anonymous donors and the Accessions Committee Fund.
Organized by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, this Lebbeus Woods exhibition showcases his wildly experimental architectural visions. Woods, who died in 2012, was best known for his works on paper, which are well represented here; more surprising and equally captivating, however, is Conflict Space 4 (2006), which eschews depictions of structures for a starkly abstract field of white acrylic marks on black linen.
