Leslie Hewitt: Riffs on Real Time (10 of 10), 2013, chromogenic print, 40 by 30 inches. Courtesy Sikkema Jenkins & Co.
The works in Leslie Hewitt’s show fall into two categories: wall-hung photos of snapshots, magazines pages and books resting on top of each other, and larger photos, encased in wood frames and leaning against the gallery wall, of books supporting a square wood board. Despite her preference for depicting flat objects, Hewitt’s elegantly sparse still lifes have a sculptural quality and an unexpected sense of depth.
