Lisa Tamiris Becker has been appointed director of the University of New Mexico Art Museum, in Albuquerque. Becker has served as director at the CU Art Museum of the University of Colorado at Boulder since 2002. She was the interim director and curator of the Richard L. Nelson Gallery & The Fine Arts Collection at the University of California, Davis, from 2000-02.
At CUAM, Becker oversaw the development of a new 25,000-square-foot environmentally sustainable museum facility, including state-of-the-art collection storage and a video gallery, completed in 2010. Her recent curatorial work for CUAM includes the exhibitions “archiTECHtonica” (2010), “Peter Wegner: Wall-To-Wall-To-Wall” (2010) and “Through Soviet Jewish Eyes: Photography, War, and the Holocaust” (2011), on view until Apr, 7 at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York.
Becker replaces Sara Otto-Diniz, the museum’s curator, who has been serving as interim director since the resignation of Luanne McKinnon last June. Becker’s first day on the job will be Apr. 1.
