Just when the New York art world starts to feel too anonymous, market-driven and cynical, the White Columns Annual appears, and the whole business seems like a boisterous family affair. Curator Pati Hertling has brought together artists who staged some of the most memorable exhibitions of 2013. Work by promising new talents like Sergei Tcherepnin, Amy Yao and Lucy Dodd are enhanced by their proximity to thoughtful, surprising selections from veterans such as Senga Nengudi and Mary Beth Edelson.
