Mark Robbins, executive director of Manhattan’s International Center of Photography (ICP), will leave the organization this month after serving for a year. He has been named president of the American Academy in Rome.
Prior to working at ICP, Robbins, 57, was the dean of the School of Architecture at Syracuse University (2004-2013), after serving as director of design at the National Endowment for the Arts from 1999 to 2002. He has authored books including Households (2006), which shows people in their homes, and Angles of Incidence (1992), a survey of Robbins’s own work as an artist. He has also written for publications including Artforum, Whitewall and Praxis.
At the American Academy in Rome, Robbins replaces Adele Chatfield-Taylor, who will step down in January after 27 years at the helm.
