Michelle Elzay: Radicchio Octopus, 2013, C-print, 37 3/4 inches square. Courtesy Fitzroy Gallery.
The photos and videos in Michelle Elzay’s show “Devour” hint at what she considers to be one of the most extreme fears: being eaten. The dozen photos-all shot on film, on starkly lit all-white sets-depict a range of barrier objects (barbed wire, pigeon spikes), animals (a wet-looking octopus slumped next to a small head of radicchio) and other precisely arranged still lifes.
