Phillips de Pury, 450 Park Avenue, New York
Â
Please join us for Photography in Flux: Reinventing the Medium, a panel discussion taking place Thursday, March 15 at 6:30pm at the midtown headquarters of Phillips de Pury & Company.
The talk brings together influential figures in the contemporary photo world. Moderated by critic, writer and Art in America contributing editor Marvin Heiferman, panelists will include Vince Aletti, the New Yorker’s photography critic; acclaimed artist Roe Ethridge; dealer Jane Hait, of Wallspace Gallery, New York; and Matthew Witkovsky, curator and chair of the department of photography at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Â
The talk is being held in connection with Art in America’s March issue, devoted for the first time to American photography. Feature articles include coverage of Zoe Strauss‘s streetwise Philadelphia photography, Robert Adams‘s cool West Coast vistas, and author Luc Sante‘s character study of Weegee.
Â
Also featured are two artists garnering notice in the current edition of the Whitney Biennial: the evasive Bay area conceptualist Lutz Bacher, and Liz Deschenes, whose work fusing architecture and photography is considered in an in-depth interview.Â
WHERE: Phillips de Pury & Co., 450 Park Avenue at 57th St.
WHEN: Thursday, March 15, reception at 6:30pm, panel at 7pm
Â
The event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP by March 12 to eherbstman@brantpub.com.
