Art in America has learned that Printed Matter’s board of directors will name James Jenkin the new executive director, replacing artist AA Bronson, who departed in November after six years in the position. Since then, Catherine Krudy, who had served in various posts at the organization since 2006, has been acting executive director.
In an e-mail to A.i.A., board chair Philip Aarons touted Jenkin’s “experience as a top manager of a major worldwide transport company and his work in founding a much-admired nonprofit to deal with the health/AIDS issues of transportation workers in Africa.”
Jenkin’s lack of an art-world background suggests that his appointment is intended primarily to bring financial stability to the organization; Aarons mentioned Jenkin’s anticipated ability to “put Printed Matter on a strong, sustainable financial footing.”
