West Soho’s Renwick Gallery will be getting a new home and a new name come mid-November. The gallery, currently named after its 45 Renwick St. home, will become Leslie Fritz (after the owner) as it relocates to 44 Hester Street on the Lower East Side. The new space, formerly a Chinese food distributor, measures 1100 square feet.
Renwick originally opened in 2007, and represents Jo Nigoghossian, Talia Chetrit and Keith Farquhar. The gallery’s new neighborhood in the Lower East Side has seen a recent influx of galleries, with Fitzroy Gallery moving to Chrystie St. from Soho’s Mercer St., Eleven Rivington expanding to a second location, also on Chrystie St., and Nicelle Beauchene and Jack Hanley sharing a space on Broome St.
Leslie Fritz has begun renovations for its new space, which is expected to open mid-November with work by painter Caitlin Keogh entitled “Modes.” The artist was previously featured in a group show at the gallery, and this will be her first solo exhibition.
