Richard Dupont’s “Sobriquets” (2015), a series of figurative sculptures created with a digitally-rendered replica of his body, inaugurates Tracy Williams Ltd.’s new location on the Lower East Side. Elongated and malformed, the sculptures retain an uncanniness evocative of Egon Schiele’s grotesque self-portraits and Surrealist dreaminess. Dupont utilizes technology but ultimately returns to sculpture’s corporeality in order to retain the works’ gravity and physical presence, a distinct departure from the methods of many post-Internet artists.
