Richard Serra is a consummate literalist and a master of transforming the space of a gallery with hulking blocks of unvarnished steel. Though wrong for so much other art, the gigantic expanses of Gagosian’s Chelsea galleries are ideal for Serra’s works, which derive a simple power from their massiveness. Bare metal-nothing more, nothing less-has never looked so good.
