Exploring Sergei Tcherepnin’s installation is an unsettling experience, starting with a warning, posted at the gallery entrance, that the magnets imbedded in the exhibition’s vibrating subway bench might be dangerous for viewers with certain medical problems. “Ear Tone Box” also includes various objects that the young composer has turned into speakers, most interactively a trio of metal boxes, covered with a gauzy fabric “curtain” that you can pop your head into. The box emits a pair of tones that come together to produce a third “eartone.” It’s aurally overwhelming, not entirely in a bad way.
