Tabor Robak: 20XX, 2013, still from HD video, real-time 3D, 10 minutes, dimensions variable.
The digital worlds that Tabor Robak builds and animates appear in all their hyper-detailed glory on large flatscreen monitors. Among the works in the 27-year-old artist’s first solo exhibition at Team is a lush cityscape populated by flamboyant skyscrapers, a manic Candy Crush-style simulation and a multi-screen interface that melds sappy domestic scenes with hard-edged corporate graphics and 3-D weapons that are every bit as refined as those found in commercial first-person shooter games. Robak’s maximalist aesthetic is consistent enough from piece to piece that the overall installation has an ambient feel, like visual furniture music for the 21st century.
