Despite its somewhat off-the-beaten-path location and diminutive space, Callicoon Fine Arts always manages to organize provocative and esoteric exhibitions, be they solo presentations or group shows. Curated by artists Moyra Davey and Jason Simon, “To The Friends Who Saved My Life” starts with a single photo by Francesca Woodman and spreads out to include work by Heinz Peter-Knes, Danh Vo and Rona Yefman. These artists introduced Davey and Simon (who also have work in the show) to the French writer and photographer Hervé Guibert (1955-1991), whose 10 somber black-and-white images depict cluttered desks, unmade beds and other scenes from daily life.
