A bit of news just came in over the transom from Skulptur Projekte Münster: Momentary Monument – The Stone, a Lara Favaretto sculpture in the show that featured a small slit through which people could deposit donations to Hilfe für Menschen in Abschiebehaft Büren e.V., an association that assists those facing deportation, raised €26,600, or about $31,400.
The full amount was revealed when the obelisk-like stone sculpture was removed from its place within the German city two weeks ago—the show ended its run October 1—and smashed into gravel at the Gaarmann Overhaus Container GmbH & Co.KG. The donation was officially made today.
Another similar Favaretto sculpture has been on view in a public square in nearby Marl, Germany, where the Skulptur Projekte had a satellite location this year, but because of what the group termed “organizational reasons,” that one won’t be cracked open until sometime early next year.
