The last time Beyoncé appeared in these pages, it was because she had visited Kerry James Marshall’s stunning show at David Zwirner in London. Now, thank goodness, she is back. On Friday she released a new song, titled “7/11,” and the accompanying video, partially filmed in her Tribeca apartment, offers a little peek at the art collection that she and her husband, Jay Z, own.
Looking closely at the photo above, it appears we have a Richard Prince car-hood painting on the right and, on the left, a David Hammons basketball drawing, with a base of bricks. (Thanks to Complex for pointing me to Jay Z’s 2010 interview with Howard Stern, in which he seems to discuss that work.)
The song also includes the line “Rock that groovy dye dashiki/Nefertiti, edges kinky.” It’s pretty great. Put it on loop. The video follows below.
