Maureen Bray, who has been a director at David Nolan Gallery since 2014 and before that was a director at Sean Kelly Galley, has been named executive director of the Art Dealers Association of America, the organization announced this morning. The nonprofit group organizes the Art Show annually at the Park Avenue Armory in New York.
Bray will be replacing Linda Blumberg, who announced that she would be leaving the position earlier this year.
“Maureen brings two decades of experience in leadership positions at our member galleries, and understands every facet of the role that dealers play in the greater arts ecology,” said ADAA President Adam Sheffer, who is also a partner at Cheim & Read gallery.
“She is greatly respected by her peers,” Sheffer continued. “Her expertise, vision, and collaborative approach will be instrumental in advancing our mission as an advocate and resource for art dealers, building on the solid foundation created under Linda Blumberg’s leadership.”
The ADAA consists of 180 galleries in 25 cities across the United States, and is actively adding new members to its ranks. This July, it announced that New York outfits Andrew Kreps Gallery, Di Donna Galleries, and Luxembourg & Dayan would be joining, alongside McClain Gallery of Houston.
This year will mark the 30th anniversary of the Art Show at the Park Avenue Armory.
“It is an exciting moment to join the ADAA as it celebrates 30 years of the Art Show, and at a time when our field is both dynamic and complex,” Bray said in a statement. “I will be drawing on my own experience as an art dealer to advance the work of our incredible membership, and look forward to working with ADAA leadership to support our dealers’ vital contributions to the art world and to build on Linda Blumberg’s legacy.”
Bray will begin her tenure January 2, 2018.
