Brie Ruais has joined Albertz Benda’s roster, and the artist’s first solo exhibition with the New York–based gallery will take place in May of 2019. Albertz Benda will also present a solo booth of Ruais’s work at the 2019 Armory Show in March.
Ruais is best known for her large-scale clay sculptures that sometimes take the form of circles or spirals. The works often explore the ways in which one embodied form can shape another, and she has said that her practice is “about what happens when one’s body is overcome by a physically demanding process.”
This year, the artist was a recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant. Ruais’s artworks have been exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and the Katzen Center at American University in Washington, D.C., among other places. Her pieces are part of the permanent collections of the Dallas Museum of Art in Texas, the Pizzuti Collection in Columbus, Ohio, and the BurgerCollection in Hong Kong.
Ruais’s works are currently featured in a group show at Albertz Benda titled “Under the Night Sky,” and they will also figure in an upcoming exhibition at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia called “Intimate Immensity.”
