CASEY KELBAUGH, FOR ARTNEWS
A new report issued by UBS claimed that the best-attended fair among collectors is the one happening right now, Art Basel Miami Beach. But that didn’t necessarily appear to be the case today, judging by reports among some that the first public day of the fair was sparsely attended in comparison to its VIP opening on Wednesday.
“Attendance on the second day of the fair was softer, but still active,” the dealers Dominique Lévy and Brett Gorvy said. Still, their gallery, Lévy Gorvy, managed to sell a Pierre Soulages from the “Outrenoire” series for more than $1 million.
Other highlights from today’s sales include Sigmar Polke’s Transparent #8 (1988), which sold at the Michael Werner booth for $1.5 million, and a Carol Bove sculpture that went for $250,000 at the David Zwirner booth.
Here’s a list of works that have been reported as sold during the first two days of Art Basel Miami Beach 2017.
