The organizers of Art Basel Miami Beach, which runs December 1 through 4 this year, announced today that the fair will feature Maura Axelrod’s documentary Maurizio Cattelan: Be Right Back, as well as some 50 other time-based works, as part of its film program.
Curated by David Gryn, the director of Daata Editions, which sells digital artworks, and the consultancy firm Artprojx, the program will also include works by Martin Creed, Rashid Johnson, Christian Marclay, Ana Mendieta, and Samson Young, among others.
Also of note in the program is a new film by the Argentinian artist Liliana Porter. Titled Actualidades/Breaking News, the 23-minute piece mimics the form of a newspaper, with 30 smaller stories told with dolls rather than people. In the film, the day’s breaking news is a train accident, which then gives way to other stories about art and a classifieds section.
And also worth mentioning: a sound program is in the offing with works by Ain Bailey, Zoë Buckman, A. K. Burns, Jonathan Montague, Molly Palmer, and Susannah Stark. The release announcing Art Basel Miami Beach’s film slate doesn’t include any more details about that sound program, so look out for more details, or just be surprised in a few weeks!
