Chicago-based artist Tony Lewis, who is best known for his large-scale drawings and collages, has joined the roster of Blum & Poe, a gallery with spaces in New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo. Lewis will continue to be represented by Shane Campbell Gallery in Chicago and Massimo De Carlo Gallery, which has spaces in Hong Kong, London, and Milan.
Lewis’ work is currently on view in a solo exhibition titled Anthology 2014-2016 at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C. The artist often utilizes graphite in creating both works on paper and site-specific floor drawings, and he also explores the malleability of language. As regards the latter, Lewis described a recent series—for which he pieced together various Calvin and Hobbes comics while editing, erasing, and rearranging their words to construct new meanings—as a “stepping stone” to poetry.
