The gallery exodus from New York’s Chelsea neighborhood continues. Anna Kustera Gallery, which shuttered its longtime home there on West 21st Street, near Gagosian Gallery, in 2013, announced that it will reopen in Red Hook in Brooklyn on July 18. Its new name will be Kustera Projects Red Hook.
A group show titled “Wave Pool” will inaugurate the gallery’s new home at 57 Wolcott Street, which it will share with Carter Kustera Productions and Croncast, a podcast series by Betsy Shilts and Kris Smith. The exhibition runs through August.
Anna Kustera first opened the gallery in SoHo in 1996. Kustera merged with Jack Tilton in 2000, operating out of the latter’s Green Street space. In 2004, the gallery moved over to Chelsea and later became Anna Kustera Gallery. Its roster includes Alix Lambert, Charles LaBelle, Molly Zuckerman-Hartung, and the estate of Karlheinz Weinberger.
