In this Pax Romana of auction house records–Christie’s made $1.72 billion in sales last week, and sold the most expensive work of art ever to appear at auction–let’s not forget the little details, which Christie’s recapped in a press release alongside other statistics about this “new and unprecedented benchmark in auction history.”
Last week at Christie’s:
-25,000 liquid ounces of coffee were served
-450 gallons of paint were used
-Over 15,000 people visited Christie’s galleries
-4,290 linear feet were used to display art work
This is not even to mention the most historic and unprecedented art auction press release of all time (or at least of May 2015), the very document from which I am quoting.
