On February 24, Christie’s King Street location will auction works from the collection of musician Sting and his wife Trudie Styler. Works for sale include Ben Nicholson’s March 55 (amethyst), estimated at £300,000-500,000 ($459,510-765,850); Henri Matisse’s 1947 Jazz portfolio, estimated at £250,000-350,000 ($382,920-536,090); a 1949 Picasso lithograph Le Corsage à Carreaux, estimated at £30,000-50,000 ($45,950-76,580); as well as contemporary works by Keith Haring, Zeng Chaunxing, and Robert Mapplethorpe.
Sting, here’s hoping that selling your collection has you and Christie’s walking through fields of gold. Haha! Get it? Fields of gold? Like, turning a profit? It’s a riff on Sting’s 1993 hit single “Fields of Gold”? Anyone? Yeah, you got it.
