After five years of operating a space in Brussels, Clearing gallery will relocate in the city to 311 Avenue Van Volxemlaan. It will inaugurate the new space in the Belgian capital on April 19 with a show of work by the sculptor Bruno Gironcoli.
“We are thrilled to write this new chapter of the gallery, as it opens up a new realm of possibilities and scale for our artists,” Marwann Frikach, a representative for Clearing’s Brussels space, wrote in an email. “Our former gallery was located uptown in an elegant townhouse. Although we cherished the place, it no longer suited our needs.”
Clearing’s new Brussels space is about 5,400 square feet, and is located in a 19th-century building that was once a shutter factory. The gallery has commissioned Koenraad Dedobbeleer, who is on its roster, to design a new door for the space. The new location puts it within walking distance of the WIELS Contemporary Art Centre.
Clearing will also continue to operate its New York space, which was opened in 2011 in Brooklyn’s Bushwick neighborhood. Impressively, that space is still open to the public seven days a week.
