Art Daily reports that a photograph by David Wojnarowicz has set a new record at Bonhams auction house, selling for $125,000, four times the high estimate.
The artist’s previous record, according to Artnet, was $122,500, achieved at a Christie’s afternoon sale in 2012. That work, History Keeps Me Awake at Night (1986), was, however, original (“acrylic, spray enamel and printed paper collage on panel”), making the photograph’s performance all the more impressive.
