Expo Chicago announced today that it has selected curators for In/Situ, Expo Video, and Exposure, three sections of the forthcoming fair scheduled for September 13-17. The fair also announced that it will host an edition of the roving European exhibition series “Hors les murs,” which previously appeared at Manifesta 11 last year. The Chicago version of “Hors les murs” will be overseen by Katell Jaffrès, a curator at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
The fair will continue looking to Paris for its In/Situ section, which will be helmed by Florence Derieux, a curator of American art at the Centre Pompidou Foundation and a curator-at-large at the Centre Pompidou. In/Situ is devoted to large-scale and site-specific work, and has previously hosted pieces by For Freedoms, Spencer Finch, and Shana Lutker.
For Expo Video and Exposure, the fair will rely on talent closer to home. Ali Subotnick, an adjunct curator at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, will oversee the Expo Video section, a showcase for moving-image works, while Justine Ludwig, the director of exhibitions and senior curator at Dallas Contemporary, will organize the fair’s first-ever curated Exposure section, which is designed to give a platform to galleries eight years or younger.
“These influential curators each have a long history of working with established and emerging artists, while representing renowned institutions from distinct areas of America and Europe,” Tony Karman, the fair’s president and director, said in a statement.
Expo Chicago has not yet announced the exhibitors for the 2017 fair, but it noted in a release that gallerists David Zwirner, Rhona Hoffman, and Jessica Silverman are among those enlisted for the selection committee.
