Today, Chicago’s Expo Chicago fair announced the works in its In/Situ and Expo Projects sections for its fourth edition, which is set to open on September 17.
This year’s In/Situ section, devoted to site-specific art, will feature work that hangs from the ceiling of the Navy Pier’s Festival Hall, where the fair will be held. Titled “Suspended: Parceling the Sky” and curated by The Contemporary Austin’s executive director, Louis Grachos, the indoor section of In/Situ brings together ten artists, from Carol Bove to Keith Sonnier, whose work is inspired by light and atmospheric conditions. The outdoor section of In/Situ will be shown at Museum Campus, a 57-acre museum park. The fair also announced seven public art installations that will appear throughout the Windy City.
“Within this aerial format, the large-scale work chosen evokes a certain celestial consciousness that confounds the expansive sky-scape above with the frenetic energy of the exposition below,” Grachos said of this year’s In/Situ program in a statement. “Through the selection of primarily suspended works, I am thrilled to be including some of the greatest artists working today, and with the encouragement of the exposition, looking forward to setting a new model of hanging artworks to anchor the experience of Expo Chicago in Navy Pier’s Festival Hall for years to come.”
The fair also announced its Expo Projects works. Notable among them is Hank Willis Thomas, Jim Ricks, and Ryan Alexiev’s In Search of the Truth (Truth Booth), a traveling installation that, in its current iteration in Brooklyn, has garnered buzz and acclaim. Daniel Buren, Spencer Finch, and Susan Hefuna will also have work in the Projects section.
