Times might be dark, but this twisted world keeps on spinning. Honestly I’m too spiritually exhausted to even attempt to add something of note, so I’m just going to leave this here: Fortune reports that yesterday a 9.14-carat pear-shaped pink diamond insanely referred to as “The Pink” sold for $18.3 million at Christie’s semi-annual Geneva sale.
The diamond—which the Christie’s website notes is accompanied with a Gemological Institute of America report affirming its status as “Fancy Vivid Pink”—went to what Christie’s international head of jewelry Rahul Kadakia called a “big mega Asian collector.” It should be noted that Monday also saw a record watch sale at Phillips in Geneva, with a World War II-era survivor going for $11.1 million. Watches, diamonds, and de Kooning are having a good week. Me personally, not so much!
