Alongside the Venice Biennale this year will be the first Carol Rama show in the Italian city since 2006. The show, which is titled “Carol Rama. Spazio anche più che tempo” and presented by the Archivio Carol Rama, will open at the Palazzo Ca’ nova on May 8.
Rama, who died in 2015, was no stranger to Venice. She won the Venice Biennale’s Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement award in 2003, and she also showed work at the biennial in 1948, 1950, 1952, and 1956. In 1993, the Venice Biennale included a solo show of her work, which runs the gamut from erotic drawings to Neo-Dada assemblages.
The Ca’ nova show will coincide with an exhibition at the New Museum in New York that opens on April 26. Massimiliano Gioni, himself a curator of a past Venice Biennale, will organize the show, titled “Carol Rama: Antibodies,” which is the artist’s first major museum solo show in New York.
