Foxy Production, which is currently located on West 27th Street in Chelsea, is headed to a new 3,000-square-foot space in Chinatown, at 2 East Broadway. It plans to open there in early 2016.
“After many years in West Chelsea, we are eager to present exhibitions within a new architecture and within a vibrant new district,” the gallery wrote.
Foxy, whose artists include Sascha Braunig, Petra Cortright, and Sara Cwynar, is working with London–based architects Matheson Whiteley on the design of the new space, and plans to install three walls of windows for the purpose of capturing as much natural light as possible.
The block of West 27th Street between Eleventh Avenue and the West Side Highway, which Foxy called home, had for years been a vital area for young art galleries, but it has undergone major changes over the past two years, with Wallspace closing this summer, Jeff Bailey Gallery moving to Hudson in 2014, and Edward Winkleman shuttering his storefront the same year.
Michael Wang will be the last artist to be featured at Foxy’s West 27th Street location. His solo show opens on October 22.
