On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, Galerie Balice Hertling has opened a second space in Paris. The new addition is located at 239 Rue Saint-Martin, placing the space blocks from the Centre Pompidou and within walking distance of New Galerie, and just slightly north of a rich gallery neighborhood in the Marais district. Designed by the New York–based architect Rafael de Cardenas, the two-story space was inaugurated recently with solo exhibitions by Camille Blatrix and Neïl Beloufa. An exhibition of the Italian transavanguardia painter Enzo Cucchi will open there on December 14.
For the past decade, Balice Hertling has operated in the city’s Belleville neighborhood, where it has established itself as one of the most important galleries in the Parisian art scene. (Briefly, the gallery’s directors, Daniele Balice and Alexander Hertling, also ran a project space in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood.) Blatrix, Beloufa, Puppies Puppies, Eloise Hawser, and Xinyi Cheng are among the artists currently listed on its roster.
Along with the news of its second location, which Balice Hertling is calling its “Arts & Metiers” space, the gallery also announced that it has brought on art consultant Sibylle Rochat as a partner.
