After three years at Gavin Brown’s Enterprise in New York, Jamie Kenyon has joined Lower East Side gallery 47 Canal as director. (If you were at Frieze London this past week you may have spotted him at 47’s booth, which held work by Josh Kline, Amy Lien & Enzo Camacho, Trevor Shimizu, and Anicka Yi.)
“My move to 47 Canal feels very natural, having grown friends with both Margaret and Oliver, and many of the artists since moving to New York three years ago,” Kenyon said in an email, referring to Oliver Newton and artist Margaret Lee, who started the gallery in 2011.
“It’s an important moment for us to grow the gallery and help realize the many ambitious projects on the horizon,” Kenyon added. “I will be involved in all aspects of the gallery including working with artists directly, helping their production, and hopefully adding a voice to the small family that is 47.”
Before working at GBE, Kenyon was curator at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow, Scotland.
In other 47 Canal news, this is the final week to see the latest solo show from Tyler Dobson, another artist-slash-dealer, at the gallery. And next up is a one-person outting by Xavier Cha.
