Among the many offerings at the 2016 edition of Art Basel Miami Beach will be the Kabinett sector, in which galleries offer curated shows within their booths. There are 30 of these exhibitions, which will run within the fair when it is open from December 1 to 4.
What’s in Kabinett this year? Well, fairgoers can expect a full-on candy store at Kavi Gupta courtesy the artist Irena Haiduk. Per the press release: “Since 1911, Kraš Candies has produced sweets for every successive political regime, from the Austro-Hungarian Empire to communist Yugoslavia to post-war transitional capitalism. Haiduk’s installation will offer candies reflecting the diverse confections favored by each regime’s ideology.”
There will also be, at the Galerie Nagel Draxler booth, a series of Mike Kelley works from 1994 called “Paintings in Time.” They were made between Christmas and New Year’s, which the release reminds us is “a time that is both one of family gatherings and holiday parties as well as heightened feelings of loneliness, darkness, and depression.”
To lighten the mood, Sperone Westwater is bringing Tom Sachs’s boomboxes, cinderblocks, and Barbie dolls.
