COURTESY LOMBARD FREID
The Chelsea gallery Lombard Freid formally announced it will close in an e-mail blast on Friday, citing as a reason that “the partnership between the principals, Lea Freid and Jane Lombard, has come to an end.” This much had been reported by Artnet last week.
Lombard Freid was in business for 20 years, opening first in SoHo, then moving to West 26th Street in Chelsea before settling at its current location on West 19th Street. The gallery supported a fairly international roster of artists. Somewhat buried in the e-mail from the gallery is the fact that Jane Lombard “will continue as a gallerist with Jane Lombard Gallery, maintaining the same mission and philosophy at the same location, 518 West 19th Street.” Lea Freid, meanwhile, has started her own art consulting firm, called LCF Agency -International Arts & Culture Projects.
